My First Blog

I finally found it and taken control again!!

I had created the blog back when www.blogger.com was still www.blogspot.com ! (No wonder I wasn’t able to login with my account details on blogger!) It was my college days and I had read somewhere about how some lady’s blog had become so popular that she was offered a Book Contract! I was broke most of the time, and money was hard to come by. It was a great idea at the time to start a blog and earn millions. I was staying in a flat with 3 other guys whom I’ve never met before, and paying less than half of what I’m paying now as rent. Food was in the form of a “Dabba” which was pure veg. We paid 650/- monthly for lunch and dinner which the delivery boy would leave at our doorstep.

The upside was that internet was cheap at 10/hr and it was my only means of keeping in touch with my friends (Chat-friends to be exact.. mIrc ruled!) No other chinky in sight (Except for the local roadside chinese who are mostly nepalis and they don’t speak English and I didn’t know Hindi/Marathi). So, in the evenings after class, before dinner-boy comes knocking, I’d be cramped up in a seedy cafe, with the stench of sweat, and the rattling of the dust-covered ceiling fan which looked ready to drop anytime and splatter the room with fresh blood, squinting my eyes to see the small text on a 14″ CRT which had a greenish tint, badly in need of degaussing.

Anyways, a few days back, I realised I had forgotten the name of the blog. So started a frantic search and after a while, I finally figured out the name. mizoblog.blogspot.com. That was the simple part. I tried to login and edit the blog, but my username and password was not correct since it was the old BLOGSPOT account. It was a long time before I actually decided to click on the following link:

(BTW, you get this page when you enter an invalid username and password in www.blogger.com). SO, I finally regained control over my old blog, but it’s kinda redundant now cos’ I have another already, and no offense to Blogspot, but I love Wordpress.

I’ve left the old blog without making any changes just for fun. I don’t have any intentions of continuing it as of now, although it would’ve been nice to have found it before I created this blog. Cos’ then, I would’ve been one with the oldest blog, if not one of the oldest bloggers.. Eat your heart out, Sandman! Hehehe!! (This phrase was taken from the old “Plasticman” cartoon which he shouts while swinging from tree to tree with “Eat your heart out, Apeman”! *Inserted just for nostalgic content!)

I’ve been to a few phai “seedy cafes with the stench of sweat, and the rattling of the dust-covered ceiling fan, and greenish 14″ CRTs” and I’m kinda awestruck that you actually managed to create blog posts in places like that. Even the clientele seemed kinda shady probably because my impression then, and even today most times, was that male Indians net-users are desperadoes prowling the www for porn and women to have sex chats with in chatrooms.

Btw I prefer blogspot to wordpress because you can actually preview and edit your comments on blogspot. Useful little device for writing perfectionists.

almost all mizo bloggers seem to be on blogspot for whatever reason and those (few) of us on WordPress seem to be in the minority. pity they don’t know how good WP is 🙂
@J – you can do the same (preview/edit) on WP too.

@Calliopia: I haven’t really thought about that, and it kinda makes me wonder why my post was so sad and dark, even back then… hmm.. got me thinking, and you are mostly right about male indian “net-cafe-users”, and cafes like that are no place for a female.. like local bars where they play old hindi videos where Zeenat sings something (Nobody listens to the song anyway)by the stream wearing nothing but a white sari.. rest is left to the male imagination!

@ruolngul: Thanks for the support.. I’ve downloaded and used WP to create websites (not-online) for educational purposes and I love its ease-of-use, especially when installing updates.. SO, I think its better put when said WP is more user-friendly while Blogspot has more features!! (Diplomatic, eh?) hehe..

Plats, maybe as owner of the blog, you can avail of a WP preview. For the rest of us ordinary folks, read my lips, no preview/edit.

red, I meant to ask earlier what was your mirc chat nick?

@father: Thanks for your droppings.. hehe.. that just came to my mind.. anyways, do come back again.. way back, it wasn’t as easy to blog and update posts as compared to now, cos’ internet wasn’t as easily accesible.. I think we should make the best use of the internet while we can or any technology for that matter, cos’ pretty soon, it’ll get outdated and some kid will come up with something newer, better, faster and easier, rendering us redundant and OLD, while our kids zip around in hover-cars and travel through warps to different galaxies and stuff.. I think I should make a fantasy post.. thanks for the idea, dude.. and drop by anytime.. 😀

Haha I see a lot of spam comment in your old blog. Those were the days blogspot didn’t have proper comment spam filter 🙂

You should have continued blogging on that id, seriously. Me, I’ve been maintaining it since 2004 too, and looking back now, it sure is memorable!!

And all that just to break Sandman’s heart? You’ve just popped his favorite delusional bubble 🙂 I should try wp and see what all the rave is about. But then, even 1 blog is more than I can handle..

Hehe.. Sandman’s not going to mind much, cos’ he’s got too many things on his mind, y’know, him being a celebrity and stuff.. I guess fame sometimes does get to your head, no matter how big or small it is.. hehe..
